Wolf Creek

Grass Valley Senior Cohousing
Construction is expected to begin mid summer of 2009 on a special senior housing community in Grass Valley. Wolf Creek Lodge, located in the historic gold rush country of the Sierra foothills, has been designed by green award winning architect, Charles Durrett. It will be home to a community of active adults who value a balance of independent and community living. Currently, Wolf Creek Lodge is open to new members (read Steps to Becoming a Member), and move-in is scheduled for the fall of 2010. A neighboring intergenerational cohousing community, Wolf Creek Commons, will be built on adjoining property at a later date (for more info, visit www.wolfcreekcommons.net).

The wooded site enjoys a hillside that drops away from the road, ending at scenic Wolf Creek, which runs along the bottom of the property. Of the 7.9 acres total, one third will be preserved as natural habitat. With abundant shopping near by, members can walk to grocery stores, banks, restaurants, and more. Historic Grass Valley is just a short walk or bike ride away.

Wolf Creek Lodge will have underground parking and elevator access from the parking garage to the three floors above. These homes are envisioned for adults mostly age 50 and older and are modeled after concepts in local architect Charles Durrett’s new book, The Senior Cohousing Handbook, A Community Approach to Independent Living. Visit CoHousing Partners for Chuck's book tour schedule. You can purchase the book at New Society Publishers.

KGO News in San Francisco broadcast a fine story on cohousing, describing its growth in the Bay Area and beyond, and featuring our own Kathryn McCamant and Jim Leach. It beautifully conveys the spirit and flavor of "intentional neighborhoods."
