Saturday Morning at the Opera

November 8, 2011
Five of us, Bernice, Claire, Jo, Magdalene and Virginia, enjoyed an outstanding production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the local movie theatre. This is a new treat for Grass Valley. We will be able to hear live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera in New York every other Saturday throughout the season. Music in the Mountains, our great local Music Organization, is sponsoring it.
We are so lucky. In the past we had to drive two hours to get to a theater that showed the operas. Now for $20.00 you get a choice “front seat” like you would never have in the real opera house, plus interviews with the singers and the conductor. This Giovanni was breathtaking in every way. Mozart’s music is always heavenly for me. He understands all the nuances of human emotions. And since this is a tale about love from the most foolish to the most sublime, he used his genius to the fullest. And the singers were superb.  I was so excited about the magical experience that I forgot to take our picture, although I had brought the camera. Perhaps next time? There will be many more opportunities
