Winter sports around Donner Summit are only an hour’s drive from Wolf Creek Lodge. Last year there was abundant snowfall in the northern Sierras; this year it’s just the opposite. There is far less snow than usual. However, there has been the opportunity to go both downhill and cross country skiing. The downhill is mainly restricted to groomed trails. Those that like to jump off cliffs into deep powder have been rather frustrated. The cross-country skiing on groomed trails has been fine, but the available trails are somewhat restricted, and there are places were the snow is thin or icy. As each day passes without snow it becomes more difficult to reach the good snow. So check first, but certainly come out and ski.

We are all hoping that March will bring enough snow to provide the scenery characteristic of winter in the Sierras.
